Apple iPad 8th Generation: iPad has been good enough, while the Air and Pro have fancier features and better performance. Meanwhile, this year the iPad Air is getting a major revamp with a big display, new processor, and USB-C that looks like an iPad Pro for less.

Apple iPad 8th Generation

However, there is not a lot to say about this new 10.2-inch iPad. It is the same device as last year with one key improvement – It now has an A12 processor instead of last year’s A10.

Apple iPad 8th Generation is a big difference and makes it a great time to consider the upgrade if you have an old iPad.

What is the Specification of the Apple iPad 8th Generation?

Price: $329
Display: 10.2 inches (2160 x 1620 pixels)
Storage: 32GB, 128GB
CPU: A12 Bionic
Camera: 8MP
Video recording: 1080p at 30 fps
Front camera: 1.2MP
Battery life (claimed): Up to 10 hours
Size: 9.8 x 6.8 x 0.29 inches
Weight: 1.08 pounds

Design

It largely carries the design from previous models and comes in space gray, gold finishes, and silver. It weighs 1.09 pounds (495 gram) for the Wi-Fi + Cellular models and 1.08 pounds (490 grams) for the Wi-Fi model. The dimensions are 9.8″ (250.6mm) tall, 0.29″ (7.5mm) thickness, and 6.8″ (174.1mm).

Cameras

The front-facing FaceTime HD camera is a 1.2MP camera with an f/2.4 aperture. It doesn’t have a physical flash but uses the screen as a flash through the Retina Flash feature.

The rear-facing camera received a spec bump and is now an 8MP camera with f/2.4 aperture. It has support for Live Photos, Panorama, Autofocus, exposure control, HDR, burst mode, auto-image stabilization, tap to focus, body and face detection, timer mode, and photo geotagging.

The rear camera also supports video recording at 1080p HD at 30fps and slo-mo video support for 720p at 120fps. It also supports time-lapse video with stabilization, body and face detection, video image stabilization, 3x video zoom, and video geotagging.

Battery Life

The iPad 8th generation includes a 32.4-watt-hour rechargeable lithium-polymer battery that gives you up t 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi or watching videos. It also gives 9 hours of surfing on the cellular network with the cellular-capable model.

iPad 8th generation: Apple Pencil

It supports the 1st generation Apple Pencil, which delivers fine performance but makes things a bit awkward.

Firstly, the cap is fairly easy to lose. Secondly, there’s no place to store the Apple Pencil; by contrast, the iPad Air’s 2nd-generation Apple Pencil magnetically attaches to the tablet’s chassis. Finally, you need to charge the Pencil by plugging it into the Lightning port, which is not exactly elegant.

The good news is that the Apple Pencil performs perfectly, especially for a tablet this affordable.

Connectivity

The Cellular models and Wi-Fi contain Wi-Fi connectivity capable of working with 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz), and Bluetooth 4.2.

If you have the Wi-Fi + Cellular model, it includes cellular connectivity for data-only networks using UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz), GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), and Gigabit-class LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 29, 30, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 66, 71).

There’ is also eSIM support for digital SIM cards.

Storage

The iPad 8th generation is available in both 128GB and 32GB variants, depending on the amount of local storage you want.
Display

It’s well-known for its displays, and it’s no slouch in this area. It features a 10.2″ LED Retina display with IPS technology, 2160x1620resolution, 500nitsbrightness, and ApplePencil 1st generation support.

Apple Smart Keyboard

The Apple Smart Keyboard gives a pretty good typing experience, but it’s not in the same as the Apple Magic Keyboard for the iPad Air and iPad Pros.

The membrane keyboard on the Smart Keyboard is not backlit and has a rubbery feel, but it’s good for typing out messages, URLs, or notes. And while you could use this accessory for typing longer reports, not having a touchpad built-in is a bummer.

Apple iPad 8th Generation release date and price

The Apple iPad 8th generation is available to order now at apple.com. It has also been made available in multiple retail stores, since September 18.

The Apple iPad 8th generation has the same price as the previous model at $329 for the Wi-Fi model and $459 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model. It is available in 32GB and 128GB capacities.
